America Says 🎉
How to Play:
On each slide is a fill-in-the-blank question. Like in the show, each question was asked of 100 Americans (or Googled for the most popular responses).
The first letter of the top seven answers are provided as a clue to their answers. If the answer involves two words the first letter of each word is given.
For each answer students guess correctly, they earn a point.
Students have 1 minute to write down as many answers as they can on a white board or piece of paper.
Once 1 minute has elapsed, they are given the correct answers. They then erase the ones that do not match. Each remaining answer earns one point.
CARD SHARKS
How To Play
Place students in pairs or small groups.
Give each group a wipe board, marker and eraser. (Pencils and paper can also be used.)
Explain to students that a word will appear on the board.
Students must guess if the next word will have more or less syllables than the word currently on display.
To earn points.
Students must break down the current word into syllables on their board.
Students then write more/less OR in the spirit of the original game higher/lower.
When the new word is displayed, students must break down the current word into syllables on their board.
Students earn 25 points for each correct part. If students have all three parts correct, they earn an extra 25 points.
A sample is available on the fourth slide of the game.
Please note that the playing card suits are only for fun and have no real bearing on the game.
This game contains words up to six syllables long. To differentiate for students who need more support in reading, it is recommened that words be limited to four syllables.

The Amazing Vocabulary Race 🚩
How to Play:
Place students in groups of 3-4.
Explain to students that they will be going around the school taking pictures of items they see that relate to the roots being studied. (In this example the roots included are chron/temp, mot/mob and manu.) At the same time, they will be completing a graphic organizer to show the connection between the roots and their photos.
Next, review the rules and expectations for the activity. For example:
Set a time for students to return to class (ie. 30 minutes). Or set a series of check in times (ie. “You are to check in with me in 10 minutes”). Setting check in times will allow you to check each group’s graphic organizers in progress for errors in understanding or incomplete sections.
Release students. (As students work, patrol the halls to ensure appropriate behavior.)
If time allows, ask groups to share their answers with one another.
Finally, collect their graphic organizers for grading.

Directions:
Ensure that each student has a wipe board, marker and eraser or another way to record their answers.
Advance to slide 3 and place the presentation in Slideshow mode.
Select a category by clicking on the icon above it.
Students will put the clues together to determine the word or phrase and record their answers.
After 1 minute has elapsed, students show the teacher their answers. The teacher then reveals the answer by advancing to the next slide.
Each correct answer earns 5 points.
Play continues until all the clues in the category are displayed and the home icon appears to take you back to the category slide.
